General Fantasy
Welcome to the world of fantasy sports. In this guide I will try to explain some of the basics concerning fantasy sports in general. This is set up to try to help you do well in your fantasy leagues; or simply just to get started playing.
Fantasy sports are online games you play, which are directly related to the major pro sports; so fantasy football deals with the NFL, fantasy baseball deals with the MLB, and fantasy basketball deals with the NBA. Similarly, fantasy hockey deals with the NHL, fantasy golf deals with the PGA, fantasy NASCAR deals with, well, NASCAR…..you get the idea now. This website is dedicated to fantasy football, but it’s important to know how the fantasy leagues correlate with the actual professional sport.
You probably have heard of fantasy sports, but maybe have wondered what the big deal is, or what it’s all about. In order to understand fantasy sports, you have to understand the sport that is being played, how it’s played, and the players within that league. You will need to follow the sport so that you can make effective decisions, such as adding or dropping players, making trades, or kind of readjustment to your roster. It is also important to have a knowledge of what the scoring settings are in your league, so you can draft appropriately. You should also know when certain players generally get drafted, so that you can make good decisions when your draft turn comes.
For purposes of this guide, I will be explaining most of what I know from Yahoo fantasy sports leagues just to make everything tie together. Most leagues are fairly standard, with slight variations from site to site.
When you first decide that you are going to start playing a fantasy sport, you need to decide what kind of league you are going to join.
